About
Currently presenting its 7th edition, GESTE Paris is an exhibition platform dedicated to the photographic and filmic "gesture" as coined by philiosopher Vilém Flusser. GESTE is the link between a private collection, works of art from prestigious galleries and a selection of guest curators and a juried open call. GESTE takes place in the intimate setting of a private classical Parisian home. Like a secret speakeasy salon it has become a recognized place to discover and meet established and emerging artists from all over the world and an opportunity to engage directly with participating artists. We host an open dialogue as part of tours and conferences.
GESTE Paris is committed to experimental processes and invites image-based artworks from outside the normal bounds of photography, including 3-D, including 3-D, metaverse, sculpture, written language, film and video. Titles include: The Gesture, Photographic Materiality, Binary/Non-binary, The Truth in Disguise, Future Conditional, Meta_Contra_Verse.

GESTE Paris, founded in 2016 by Shiva Lynn Burgos, is a curatorial initiative for experimental art. Burgos, a multidisciplinary artist and curator from New York, works between Paris, London, and Papua New Guinea.
Her contemporary, conceptual practice focuses on evolution, competition, and natural and social selection, examining their biological, architectural, and cultural manifestations. Burgos integrates field-collected and found objects with contemporary materials and technology as a resource for examining the shifting value systems of provenance in relation to currency, spirituality and custom.
Burgos' diverse works include photography, film, painting, bronze castings, sound compositions, tapestries, installation, and performance. She explores analog photography's materiality and digital image-making, including AR/VR, cyanotype printing, and holographic imaging. Her expertise in digital imaging led to work with NYC art departments, most notably as an exhibition designer for The Guggenheim Museums and artist consultant for The Metropolitan Museum, NY.
She collaborates with Javier Barrera in Ned&ShivaProductions and founded The Mariwai Project in 2013, fostering cultural exchange and research with Papua New Guinea's traditional artists. As an initiated clan member, Burgos supports living cultures by connecting ethnographers and museum collections. The Mariwai Project includes philanthropic support for art, culture, health, education and development in the region.
Burgos has worked with over 200 artists, presenting and commissioning new works. Her art is featured in prestigious collections worldwide. In 2024, Papua New Guinea's Ministry of Culture appointed her International Representative for Arts and Culture.
